Privacy Policy
Effective date: 18 June 2026
PT Session Timer ("the app") is a menu-bar time-tracking companion for Avid Pro Tools, developed by Industry Studio ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version
- Private by design. All of your data stays on your Mac.
- No servers, no accounts. We do not operate any servers, and there are no user accounts.
- We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal information.
- No tracking. The app contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking of any kind.
Information stored on your device
To do its job, the app records and stores the following locally on your Mac, inside its own sandboxed application storage:
- Names of your projects and Pro Tools session files, and their file paths.
- Time you spend working, grouped by project and day (including manual time entries and notes you add).
- Optional billing settings you enter (such as hourly rates and invoice records), if you enable billing.
- Results of the optional media-location and save checks (for example, which audio files were inside or outside a session folder at last open).
- Your app preferences.
This information never leaves your computer unless you choose to export it (see "Exporting your data" below). We have no access to it.
Connection to Pro Tools
The app communicates with Pro Tools only through Pro Tools' local scripting interface on your own machine (localhost, port 31416). Through this connection the app reads information such as the open session's name and file path, the transport state, and the locations of the files a session references, so it can track your time and run its safety checks. This connection never leaves your computer and is never sent to us or any third party. The app's "outgoing network" capability exists solely for this local, on-device connection.
Optional folder access
If you turn on the "save check" safety feature, macOS will ask you to grant the app read access to the folder or drive where your Pro Tools sessions live. The app uses this access only to read file modification dates (to warn you if a session may not have been saved). This access is read-only, is granted and revoked entirely by you, and the information stays on your device.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect names, email addresses, or any account or contact information.
- We do not use analytics, crash-reporting SDKs, advertising identifiers, or trackers.
- We do not include any third-party software development kits that collect data.
- We do not build user profiles, and we do not sell or share data, because we do not have your data.
App Store and crash diagnostics
PT Session Timer is distributed through Apple's App Store and TestFlight. If you have chosen to share diagnostics with developers in your device or App Store settings, Apple may provide us with anonymized, aggregated crash and usage statistics. This is handled by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy, contains no information that identifies you, and is governed by the settings you control on your device. The app itself sends nothing.
Exporting your data
The app lets you export your data to a file (for backup or to move to another Mac) and import it again. You choose where these files are saved and who, if anyone, you share them with. We are not involved in and have no access to these files.
Data retention and deletion
Because your data lives only on your Mac, you are in full control of it. You can edit or delete individual entries and projects within the app, and you can remove all of the app's data at any time by deleting the app. We retain nothing on our side because we never receive it.
Security
Your data is stored within the app's sandboxed storage on your Mac and is protected by macOS's standard app sandboxing and file protections. Keeping your Mac and its disk secure (for example, with FileVault) further protects this data.
Children
PT Session Timer is a professional audio tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices change, we will update this policy and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
